Breaking the Waves (1996) is a bold drama, in the sense that it tackles a realistic issue head-on. And it does so in a gripping and memorable way. Filmed in Denmark, the cast is led by Emily Watson, the great Stellan Skarsgård, and Katrin Cartlidge.
This is a good one, which is often overlooked.
