Abandoned Retail
Even with crude oil prices still sinking, quite a few retail names remain under fire. COH is the flop du jour, although Coach's stock was already damaged goods for quite some time, including KORS RL URBN, among others.
In addition, names like CAB DKS KSS are worth of attention on the short side, all in downtrending charts with price failing to muster much of a bounce which holds.
Of course, the other side of the coin would be names like Disney, defying gravity for a while now. This bifurcation has been a circumstance we have seen for quarters on end, as the "rich get richer" theme continues for a select few in the retail/consumer complex. We could also parse the differences between the retail storefront operation versus the likes of AMZN DIS, etc., but the market has essentially done that for us anyway, given the price action.
One thing to consider about DIS would be the action in TSN today--A huge multi-year winner with a strong chart on all timeframes, which then dumped hard below the 200-day moving average after earnings. Those steep trends have a way of unraveling quickly, which begs the issue of risk/reward for longs up here.
