The Last King of Scotland (2006) features Forrest Whitaker and James McAvoy, both of whom are strong character actors and are allowed to flourish as the leads here.
This film is a fantastic and intense depiction of real-life brutality seen under the Ugandan dictator Idi Amin’s regime, as viewed through the lens of his personal physician (McAvoy) during the 1970s.
In my view, Whitaker's portrayal of Amin is his best work, and will be remembered as his seminal role in a long line of solid acting performances.
