Speculation was, of course, always front and center during the the expansion of the American Frontier. 

Before Las Vegas, there was Deadwood which, I am sure, most of you know from the terrific HBO series of the same name last decade. 

The following documentary makes for an interesting Saturday viewing, piecing together the rampant, at times lawless, speculation on all levels which took place during the Gold Rush.
