Netflix’s first venture into original programming began with the Norwegian drama/comedy series "Lilyhammer" back in 2012. The show ran for three seasons, until it was announced this summer it would not renew due to behind-the-scenes issues.
But, make no mistake, the series is top notch, essentially serving as the "Better Call Saul" spinoff version of "The Sopranos." The series centers around New York gangster Frank “The Fixer” Tagliano (Steven Van Zandt, who played Silvio in "The Sopranos" and whose character in this show bears a striking resemblance). Tagliano goes into witness protection as part of a deal he cut with the FBI, choosing Lillehammer, Norway, over the conventional tropical haven.
Tagliano starts a new life with a new name, but eventually is up to his old tricks, this time becoming involved with a few locals.
Kudos to the wildly talented Norwegian cast, namely Trond Fausa and Fridtjov Såheim. Some of the scenes and episodes are downright hilarious--You do not want to miss this one.
