Saturday Night at Market Chess Cinemas

One of the great Jack Nicholson's more overlooked films (these days) is Five Easy Pieces (1970), which delves into the notion of the divide between blue and white collar jobs, mindsets, and people. It is also a good story about chasing after places, things, and people, which often comes at the expense of inner peace.

I consider this some of Nicholson's best work, and is definitely worth a viewing some forty-five years after its release.

Robert Dupea has given up his promising career as a concert pianist and is now working in oil fields. He lives together with Rayette, who's a waitress in a diner. When Robert hears from his sister that his father isn't well, he drives up to Washington to see him, taking Rayette with him. There he gets confronted with his rich, cultured family that he had left behind.
