The Allure of the Rails' Yesteryear
After noting their consistently bearish price action for quarters on end, the majority of the railroad stocks have been in steady-as-she-goes uptrends since the winter months.
The Norfolk Southern daily chart, below, illustrates as much, with even today's soft tape not inflicting any selling on the name. Other large rails like CP CSX UNP have enjoyed similar success of late, too.
There are a few ways to interpret this price action, perhaps indicative of a surprise uptick in economic activity or just a general rotation during the business cycle. Either way, the rails and derivative plays are worth a closer look--We have a few of the subtle more ideas on watch for Members, for example.
Headed into the closing bell, this slow market day feels like it could use a late-afternoon nap. However, that should not necessarily distract us from some intriguing setups which remain in play.
And, of course, seeing NFLX PCLN TSLA all fare particularly well today may galvanize the bulls yet as the week unfolds and the pace of the action presumably picks up.
See you after the bell for my recap.
