A Quick Trip Through God's Country

Amid the headlines and sharp moves across the energy complex today, it is rather easy to overlook some of the constructive action among the agriculture and fertilizer plays. 

The ringleader, on some level, would be Deere. Farmers love their John Deere's, of course, and it shows on the long-term chart, below. Note how DE is finally breaking through extremely well-defined resistance dating back nearly a full decade now. This amounts to a major, not minor breakout. 

For all of the fits, starts, whipsaws, and frustrating action in the fertilizers for a while now, the mental toughness component of trading requires us to take this recent strength just as seriously as the other times, giving bulls a fair chance to follow-through higher for a potentially significant move.
