Super Exposure on Super Sunday
It is worth noting that Super Bowl LI, kicking off this Sunday at 6:30 pm EST, is being played at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
That stadium is named at NRG Energy, whose stock has been off to a hot start in 2017. The daily chart for NRG below, indicates as much, with price rallying literally since the first trading day of 2017 on impressive buy volume, to boot.
NRG is a diversified power company with exposure to renewable energy sources, not to mention a nuclear division. Earnings are scheduled for the end of February, which leaves plenty of time for the stock to consolidate before the big game, where the firm will likely receive plenty of attention this weekend and perhaps even more interest from retail afterwards.
But there does indeed seem to be substance here, beyond the flash of the Super Bowl. Whenever a stock gets off to such a hot start to the year, we want to stick with the name and see if the first consolidation stays shallow and eventually stabilizes for another move back higher.
