Hurricane Plays Redux for the Blizzard

It remains to be seen if the current east coast winter blizzard will inflict as much damage as some believe. But if it does, namely in the form of windy and icy conditions causing power outages, we should probably keep a standard hurricane play in mind: Generac Holdings, the quintessential back-up generator play.

On the GNRC weekly chart, below, since hurricane season ended last autumn the stock predictably cooled off.

However, it is interesting to see that the gains were not relinquished from the prior run-up, despite the obvious news-related move in play. Generally, one would think such a type of move would be rather ephemeral and perhaps even an emotional reaction to the news flow.

But, instead, Generac has held firm, with a tight sideways base near recent highs. Indeed, this type of price action is usually constructive and thus merits our attention for a fresh push higher over $51 or so, especially if unfortunate power outages wreak havoc in the northeast over the next few days.
