See's Candies No Evil; Hear No Evil

Warren Buffett, in perhaps one of his final acts of superficial white-knighting (Clayton Homes, cough cough) for the American people, was part of an announcement this morning that his Berkshire Hathaway, Amazon, and JPMorgan would be forming a health care firm "free from profit-making incentives" to lower costs for their employees.

Putting to one side just how magnanimous this new venture may or may not be, we know many healthcare and insurance stocks like CVS MET and others are getting hit with a double-whammy--This major partnership alongside the largest broad market opening selloff we have seen in weeks, if not months.

It is rather ironic that Amazon is part of the deal, too, since it raises the same issues we discussed in recent years about the retail sector in terms of whether the AMZN-eats-the-retail-world theme was exaggerated. And as we noted several times, Amazon's innovation and strategy was likely at the epicenter for quite a few retail stocks getting whacked or even driven out of business altogether, but it certainly was not true on every level that Amazon hijacked the entire industry.

And the same might be said about healthcare now.

As an example, why would a firm like Teladoc not at least initially get swept up in a broad market selloff as well as the healthcare news? The fact that TDOC is green right off the bat this morning seems like a rather bullish "tell," for Teladoc, pardon the play on words. As you may know, Teladoc, Inc. is a telehealth company that uses telephone and videoconferencing technology to provide on-demand remote medical care via mobile devices, the internet, video and phone.

Thus, given the new age technology which can streamline costs, perhaps TDOC is an early candidate to be chosen by the Bezos/Buffett/Dimon knight in shining armor to save the American people.
