A Big Battle for the New Year

BattleofAspern_1809 Within the consumer discretionary space we have a big battle brewing into 2015. On the one hand, casual dining and restaurant plays have largely been impressive to close out 2014. On the other hand, major casinos have noticeably been weak. Specifically, the charts of WYNN and DFRG illustrate these points, seen on their respective charts, below. The critical issue for WYNN is whether it will continue to break lower out of the highlighted daily chart bear flag. For DFRG, the weekly chart shows a potential inverse head and shoulders bottom. Headed into 2015, it is unlikely we see the restaurants surge with the casinos making new lows. So, the consumer discretionary divergence will probably be resolved in the New Year, another resolution of many indeed. WYNNDFRG
