On March Madness and This Year's NCAA Tournament Bracket

The dust appears to be settling from yesterday's big move in the market, with names like BLUE HAIN RARE intriguing as fresh longs if we see more strength, and CP UNP setting up as shorts.

FB is finally trying to break higher from its long, sideways consolidation, and we will see if it holds given how many eyes are on it at the moment. 

My positions are largely working for me this morning, save NUGT's pullback. Coffee gapped up nicely, seeing me with cushion on my JO long now. 

As for the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, kicking off in full swing this afternoon, I have Notre Dame knocking off the undefeated Kentucky in the Elite 8 out of the Midwest regional final. 

It is worth noting that no NCAA men's team has finished a season undefeated since Bob Knight's  Indiana Hoosiers did in the 1975/6 season (pictured above), led by Kent Benson, Scott May and Quinn Buckner. 

Kentucky is in a position to accomplish that this season. And from a bettor's standpoint it seems as though it may be the obvious but correct pick. 

That may be the case, but Notre Dame can hang with anyone in the country, averaging 78.8 points per game this season and beating both Duke and UNC in the ACC Tournament last week. 

Within the context of the March Madness bracket structure, a Kentucky loss before the Final Four would likely bust more brackets than usual, relative to other years where there may not have been such an obvious, consensus top team. 

I have a Final Four of Notre Dame/Arizona and Louisville/Duke, with Notre Dame winning the whole thing. 

I should add the Duke pick is surprisingly contrarian this year, with many looking at the Blue Devils as not being as strong as usual, instead opting for Iowa State or Gonzaga out of the South regional. 

But Duke is still a number one seed for a region, and as much as I like Iowa State and even Gonzaga, the Blue Devils still have a top five all-time coach in the NCAAs.
