Saturday Night at Market Chess Cinemas

Plenty of you are aware of the popular animated television series entitled, "King of the Hill," which ran on Fox from 1997-2010 and capitalized on the enormous success of "The Simpsons."

However, there is also an excellent film titled King of the Hill (1993), which I am going to recommend tonight. 

Directed by the great Steven Soderbergh, the film is set in the midwest during the Great Depression of the 1930s. The case is solid, including the estimable character actor Jeroen Krabbe and the up-and-coming, at the time, Adrien Brody.

But the young Jesse Bradford headlines the film, and does a great job for a young teen actor. 

Set specifically in St. Louis, the film chronicles young Bradford's character as he tries to survive the Depression essentially on his own amid adversity with his family. 

Overall, this is a well-made period piece and a gripping drama well worth a viewing, especially if you are looking for a momentary escape from current politics this weekend.
