A Premium Placed on Price
Beyond leaders like PCLN rallying sharply after earnings today, another idea is to scout out potential new leaders in their own specific industry.
As an example, Planet Fitness prices gym memberships usually far below completion. And with health insurance premiums in the news across the country for rising sharply, Americans may very well save money by trading down for a cheaper gym like PLNT at around $10 per month.
The market seems to be validating that thesis, with the daily chart, below, showing a smooth base since July after its IPO run-up.
PLNT looks as firm and coiled as just about any chart out there right now. Regardless of your politics, Americans likely know they should not quit their gyms altogether, especially with the healthcare issues. But they do not want to pay $40 per month when they can pay $10. PLNT also has plenty of room to grow franchises.
