Can You Name the Oldest Company in California?

The answer to the question posed by this headline takes us back to the great California boom years at its inception. Indeed, Ducommun, Inc. evolved from a hardware supply store opened by Charles Ducommun in Los Angeles, in 1849, during the California Gold Rush. From the company's website, Ducommun assisted in the birth of the aerospace industry in Southern California by providing aircraft aluminum to early aerospace pioneers like Lindbergh, Douglas and Lockheed.

DCO is now a fairly diversified but smaller cap aerospace and defense firm. The firm's stock recently surged after earnings only to "squat' back inside its prior range.

However, as you can see today on the daily timeframe, below, buyers are willing to step back in to shoot the name up nearly 4% into a mixed tape.

To be sure, there are plenty of headlines swirling around the federal government and Washington D.C. right now. And perhaps that will not change anytime soon.

But the aerospace/defense firms still look to be a prime beneficiary of recent outcomes, and that may also be here to stay. Thus, the smaller cap names like DCO could easily present tremendous opportunities going forward.

More on the market after the bell in my recap.
