Time to Recharge
The stock market does not give you many days off. But we have one on Monday in observance of Memorial Day, which of course differs from Veterans Day in November as the former is a holiday set aside to pay tribute to those who died serving in the military (Veterans Day honors all who have served in the military). On that note, you can see that Memorial Day is inherently a more sobering holiday.
Regarding the markets, we had a pretty typical holiday week of trading with a bullish bias, amid drifting action. June, just ahead, can be a tough month for stocks. But we know every moment in the market is unique, and this tape is certainly a good example. So, trading off seasonality is likely not a sound strategy on a standalone basis.
Above all else, we should take this long weekend to step back from the market and replenish our proverbial batteries. Taking risks on a daily basis is part and parcel of being a speculator, in all forms. But given the perpetual grind of markets it is also imperative to take the occasional break and replenish the fighting, dignified spirit.
