The Most Beautiful Solar Wall You Have Ever Seen
For the politically-charged dogmatic types, it may very well prove to be the ultimate plot twist if solar stocks performed terribly in the Obama years only to then bottom in the first few months of a Trump presidency and stage a new bull run.
First things first, though, and with Trump floating the idea of a "Solar Wall" on the U.S./Mexico border we are seeing solar socks sustain their recent strength.
RUN and VSLR are two domestic solars which were out in front of this news, rallying hard since last week. But now SPWR and even FSLR are looking to play catch-up this morning, two other domestic solars.
To make matters more complex, solars are rallying even as crude and energy stocks have slumped. Typically, solars can thrive in a rising oil environment with an emphasis on alternative sources of energy.
Instead, solars have essentially ignored the crude plunge and is now threatening to emerge from a protracted bear market--Recall that the last good solar bull run topped out in 2008. Since then, solars crashed (alongside everything else back then) leading to the ultimate "bull killer" recipe of a crash followed up by many, many years of mostly sideways action.
But as you can see on the TAN daily chart, below, the solar sector ETF is at least making some technical headway. Indeed, a close and hold over $19.20 puts the solar bottoming thesis very much in play from a technical standpoint, regardless of politics and regardless of whether that solar wall materializes or not.
