Western Hemisphere Bias
A popular theme in sports is that there is an "east coast bias" in America against the west coast teams, most notably heard in college football and college basketball, but also in the NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA. The time difference is part of it, as well as the hub of media centers mostly being located along the major cities of the eastern seaboard of America.
But when we look at stocks, it is worth noting the strength of late in the Eastern Hemisphere of the world, amid the focus on Wall Street in New York.
Beyond China, we know India has been a stalwart for a while now, discussed in previous blog post. But Israeli plays have been hot, such as SODA TSEM WIX, among others.
And down under in Australia we even have the global materials miner BHP, below on the daily chart, sprinting higher in recent weeks. If BHP can build on this rally after several quarters of consolidation, it will go a long way to confirming a new bull run which arguably began back in early-2016--You are talking about a firm with a $100 billion-plus market cap and a dominant miner in Asia.
Thus, beyond NFLX earnings and some banks like GS tomorrow morning, the other side of the world holds several key pieces of the puzzle for bulls to capitalize on into the back half of 2017.
