Front-Running Football Season
To continue with the theme of parsing the retail/consumer discretionary complex for leaders gone bad, laggards staying weak, as well as emerging leaders, etc., we turn to prospect of a looming football season.
College football, in particular, is known just as much for its pre-game tailgating as it is for the actual game played on the field.
If you have ever attended a football game at the University of Notre Dame, for example, you will see row upon row of RVs parked well in advance of kickoff. And then, of course, we have all of the southern schools who practically make tailgating a form of art (at least before the booze starts to hit).
This is where Camping World Holdings comes in. CWH, below on the daily chart, was an IPO from 2016. Clearly, the stock is acting as well as any retail-related name at the moment. And is also fairly close to a pure play on RVs, campers, etc..
Regardless of shopping mall trends, Amazon's extreme dominance, or any other chic retail analysis these days, CWH is implying that football season will continue to be, well, football season, completely with all of the pre-game rituals.
If CWH can clear $36.60 it should be a fun football season for all parties involved.
