Saturday Night at Market Chess Cinemas

Say what you want about filmmaker Oliver Stone (he is unquestionably "out there"), but there is no denying he remains one of the most legendary auteurs over the last several decades of cinematic history. 

We market players know him as the guy who directed (and co-wrote) the iconic Wall Street (1987). However, his body of work is composed of many other well-crafted films, most of which are at least worth a viewing. 

Therefore, in light of recent headlines, tonight I am going to recommend his epic, JFK (1991), featuring a truly jaw-dropping cast of Kevin Costner, Kevin Bacon, Sissy Spacek, Joe Pesci, Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland, Jack Lemmon, Michael Rooker, John Candy, and plenty more recognizable faces. 

As the title implies, the film centers around JFK's assassination and the subsequent fallout, with Costner featured as real-life District Attorney Jim Garrison. While the film was certainly faced a myriad of criticisms regarding historical accuracy, this film led in part to congressional action which saw many JFK-related documents being released to the public last week.

And for any film to accomplish that is noteworthy, regardless of how much creative license Stone took in the actual production. On that note, the film itself is gripping, fascinating, energetic, and if nothing else though-provoking.
