Saturday Night at Market Chess Cinemas
Few films have been as quoted--and especially referenced--as Deliverance (1972).
Ironically, many "millennials" likely are not even aware this film exists, as it was released some thirty-five years ago at this point and has seen its ubiquity taper off over the last decade or so.
But that is unfortunate, since we live in a nation now with plenty of cultural divides between rural and urban. In some respects, this film is a prophetic.
The story seems innocent enough in the beginning, with a bunch of middle-aged men going on a canoeing trip. The cast is strong, headlined by Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, and Ned Beatty.
Depending on where you live and how many places you have visited in your life, the rest of the film may very well scare the living daylights out of you.
